Cylindrical roller bearings are capable of supporting much heavier radial loads than ball bearings of the same dimensions. However, with some exceptions, they are not used to support axial forces. NJ type bearings allow for limited axial shaft location in one direction, while NUP type bearings and NJ bearings combined with an HJ (or NH) angle ring allow for bidirectional location.

These bearings are very sensitive to even small errors in shaft and housing alignment.
